Use a drop of clear liquid hand soap and cool water.

Brush gently.

Soak in a retainer cleaning solution once a week if you want extra freshness.

Never boil your retainer.

Never put it in the dishwasher.

Never leave it within reach of a dog.

Dogs love the smell of retainers and will destroy them in seconds.

For fixed retainers bonded behind your teeth, you must floss under the wire every single day.

A water flosser makes this much easier.

If plaque builds up around a fixed retainer, your gums swell, your breath suffers, and cavities form on teeth that were perfectly straight seconds ago.

Swallowing a bracket or severe facial trauma requires immediate emergency room evaluation, not an orthodontic office visit.

A loose bracket that is not hurting you can wait.

Cover it with orthodontic wax and call us to schedule a repair.

A wire poking your cheek is uncomfortable but not dangerous.

Use the eraser end of a pencil to gently push the wire flat.

Cover the end with wax.

A broken aligner means you should drop back to your previous tray and call our office.

Do not jump ahead to the next tray without my approval.
