GRIN Remote Monitoring at SMILE-FX
Between Every Visit
At SMILE-FX, we use GRIN as one of our AI-powered remote monitoring platforms to track your OrthoFX® treatment progress between office visits.
GRIN allows Dr. Tracy Liang to review your aligner tracking data regularly — without requiring you to come into the office for a routine check. Every scan is run through AI-assisted analysis, giving Dr. Liang clear, objective progress reports rather than relying on guesswork between visits. When your treatment is on track, you continue with confidence. When something needs attention, Dr. Liang reaches out to you directly, in real time — before it becomes a problem.
For patients with parents involved in their care, GRIN also makes it easy to follow progress alongside Dr. Liang’s reviews, so the whole family stays informed without extra office trips.
GRIN is a remote monitoring platform designed for orthodontic practices and their patients. It combines smartphone-based intraoral scanning so you can capture your own scans from home using your phone’s camera, AI-powered analysis where the platform assesses your scans and compares tooth position to your treatment plan, and provider review where Dr. Liang reviews the AI analysis and makes clinical decisions about your care.
GRIN is designed to be simple for patients and clinically powerful for orthodontists — making it a natural fit for SMILE-FX’s precision-first treatment philosophy.
From Home:
When it’s time to submit a scan, you receive a notification. Using your smartphone, you capture a quick series of photos or video of your teeth while wearing your current aligner stage — typically less than five minutes.
GRIN’s AI Analysis:
The platform processes your scan and compares it to your expected tooth position at this stage of treatment. It flags any areas where tracking may be deviating from the plan.
Dr. Liang’s Clinical Review:
Dr. Liang reviews the analysis with her clinical expertise. She determines whether your treatment is progressing correctly — or whether a modification, new instruction, or in-office visit is needed.
Communication:
If everything looks great, you advance to your next stage as planned. If there’s a concern, our team reaches out promptly so you’re never left wondering about your progress.
Fewer Unnecessary Visits
GRIN allows Dr. Liang to provide clinically meaningful oversight without requiring you to be in the office for every data point. Routine check-ins move to remote; in-person time is reserved for when it actually matters.
Faster Problem Detection
Issues that might go unnoticed for weeks under a traditional schedule are detected in days with GRIN — and addressed before they affect your timeline.
Board-Certified Oversight, Remotely
Every GRIN submission is reviewed by Dr. Liang personally, not delegated. You get specialist-level oversight between every visit.
Platform Built for Real Life
Submitting a GRIN scan takes a few minutes from anywhere with your phone. It fits into a workday, a travel schedule, or a busy evening — no appointment needed.
Nighttime aligner treatment — NiTime™ and AirFlex™ — operates on a compressed timeline. Precise tracking is critical: with fewer wear hours than traditional daytime aligners, every stage needs to work as planned.
GRIN’s monitoring protocol is particularly valuable for nighttime aligner patients because any tracking deviation is caught quickly before it compounds across multiple stages, wear compliance can be assessed through regular scan frequency, and Dr. Liang can adjust staging or protocol as needed without waiting for a scheduled appointment.
For SMILE-FX patients on a 4–6 month nighttime aligner timeline, GRIN is a key part of what makes that timeline achievable.
